I am using the lattest office 365 version of PowerPoint for Mac. I cannot type in a language different from portuguese (I have a portuguese keybord).

I go to Tools-Language. Choose a different language (UK English) and hit 'Set as default', after wish the default language seams to be set to English, but as soon as I start typing at any place, the language of the typed text changes back to portuguese. The only way to have the spell checker in English is to select te text (after typing it) and then change the language of that text. This is annoying, since not only the spell checker is configured in the wrong language, but it also tries to auto-correct to that language. Appreciate any help. Thank you, Fernando Jesus.
Configuring The Check Spelling Language in PowerPoint 2011 (Mac) In the Apple Mac PowerPoint (version 2011) the language configuration is slightly different, mainly because the dictionary setting of Mac OS is not so tightly integrated as the one of Windows and Office 2013. Click the File tab or the PowerPoint menu, depending on your version and select Options. In the Options dialog box, select Save. At the bottom of the options list in the right panel, place a checkmark in the box labeled Embed fonts in the file.
Thank you Phillip! I just configured an english keyboard, and if I select that keyboard the language assumed by PowerPoint will also be English. This means that PowerPoint will link the keyboard language to the spell checking language. This is very sad, and an unfortunate design decision from the people developing PowerPoint. Either I have to buy an external keyborad for any language I need to use (I work at least with 3 on a daily basis) or I will have to configure a different language keyboard, which will not have the same logical layout of my Portuguese keyboard. Word works very well, since it automatically adjusts the spelling language as you type a few words on another language.
OneNote is not as smart as Word, but at least it lets me set the language, and it will not change that setting based on the configured keyboard. I will follow your suggestion, and request that feature. Thank you, Fernando Jesus. I've checked and you are correct. I am assuming that you set the Dictionary used in Word. If it doesn't I would suggest you Click on the Smiley Face on right-hand side of the Tab bar And suggest this. Another Route is to go to www.onenote.uservoice.com/ And suggest that they add the ability to change the language for OneNote like in Word.

While it is easy to change, that happens to be a great time waster if you need the language changed across all content in all slides! There are two ways to set the proofing language for your entire presentation - and you can use any of these approaches. Make sure you have the for all or any of the languages that you need to work within PowerPoint. Then follow these steps:. Open your presentation and navigate to any slide with some text on it. Within the slide, select all the text containers. You can select the text containers in three ways:.
If there is only one text container on the slide, just click on the edge of the text container to it. If there are more than one text containers on the slide and nothing else, press Command+ A to select all the text containers. If there are more than one text containers on the slide that also includes other slide objects, press Command+ A to select all the slide objects on the slide, and then deselect the slide object which you don't want to be the part of the selection. You can quickly deselect any object by Shift+ clicking the object. Note: A text container is any slide object that typically contains text - these are:,. At this point of time, you have selected the text containers you want to change the proofing language for, as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1: Text containers selected on the slide.
Now, select the Tools Language menu option as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: Select the Tools Language menu option. This brings up the Language dialog box - scroll down the Mark selected text as list to select an installed language as shown in Figure 3. After selecting the language you want to use for your selected text containers, click the OK button. Figure 3: Language dialog box. Select other text containers and repeat this process ( Steps 2 and 3 shown earlier on this page) to change the Language option for the text on all the other slides in your presentation.
Another way of setting the proofing language for the entire presentation is through the, as explained below:. With your presentation open, click the Outline tab (highlighted in red within Figure 4) to access the, as shown highlighted in blue within Figure 4. Figure 4: Outline Pane.
Within the Outline Pane, select the entire text as shown in Figure 5 using the Command+ A. Figure 5: Entire text selected within the Outline Pane. Now, access the Language dialog box as explained in Steps 2 and 3 earlier on this page.
Change the proofing language within the Mark selected text as list as required - this changes the proofing language for your entire presentation. Note that this approach only changes the proofing language for text placeholders- and leaves text boxes and shapes untouched.
