Your Mac doesn't. For web browsers, Roku and Amazon Firestick DIRECTV NOW relies on IP address GEOlocation.
To fix this issue you would need to contact DIRECTV NOW care team using the chat option. They have the ability to report this issue and essentially tell the GEOlocation service provider to match your IP address block to your billing zip code. That's all it takes.
That and 10-14 days for the effects to kick in. In the meantime, your local channel video on demand is available on your Mac. Live local tv can be accessed using your mobile device(as you already know). You can also use your DIRECTV NOW log in credentials to access including ABC NBC and FOX. Hope this help! EDIT: Small grammar corrections.
They do not have the ability to tell the geo service to match anything. The geo service has no control over 'IP address blocks', whatever that might be.
And if DTVN was willing to ignore what the geo companies say and just impose their own address info, they wouldn't need the effort and expense of using a geo service in the first place - they would just use the billing address. But they contractually can't do that. It is certainly possible to provide updated address info to a geo service - which they might or might not pay any attention to - but even if they do, that only impacts things until the next time your ISP changes your IP address. One way to ease the pain of wrong geo-Location would be for DTVN to develop a simple mobile GPS location sync from your mobile device to properly locate your TV device and home network. DTVN knows the MAC address’s of the connected devices, billing zip and by allowing a GPS sync can correctly locate your device. This follows all the rules of compliance, and turns your fixed geolocation device into a travel/mobile device. When on your home net, you’ll get locals if available, move and re-sync you’ll get locals if available.
Will save AT$T in fancy algorithms that have a high rate of failure on a backbone of questionable 3rd party data verification. Oh yeah.user appreciation.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions. I posted my experiences with Edge and windows 10 but they felt the need to edit and remove what I posted as to how I got it working.
It flat out will not work on Edge, nor is there a win 10 app. Internet Explorer 11 or Chrome at this point only. On windows 10, Internet Explorer is actually still installed and it does work on that. To start IE11, type 'C: Program Files Internet Explorer iexplore.exe' from a run box or commmand prompt as it's hidden to promote Edge. You will probably have to install silverlight.
